It’s a picture of Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar which I took on my last day in Myanmar before I left for Hanoi last April 2007.

Nowadays, if you switch your TV to International News Channel you may watch a lot of coverage on Myanmar now. And you may have a chance to see Shwedagon Pagoda which has been sealed by the military.

I spent more than than 6 years in that country both in the cities of Yangon and Mandalay. Since last August when the government announced the fuel price hikes – I follow the news from time to time through Channel News Asia and the internet. Since then, it is very difficult for me to see the situation there. Myanmar, is a country which I feel so attached with after spent so many years there. I remember, early this month where there was one morning when I switched on the TV to check the news and the coverage I saw on Myanmar break my heart and tears started to show its presence.

The government imposed dusk-to-dawn curfew, in Yangon and Mandalay since the anti-government protests becoming so intense. And at last the protest became a riot. Some civilians got killed and 3 of them are monks.

I can’t say much, only hoping for the best and the condition would recover soon, to get better for everybody there.

Friends and to all my Burmese brothers and sisters in Yangon and Mandalay, please ….. hanging tough.
